OBJECTIVE/CONTEXT
WhatsApp is a ubiquitous messaging platform that keeps millions of users across the world connected. Often, those connections span borders or continents. To celebrate that massive multicultural influence, WhatsApp launched a social-first documentary series centered on diaspora communities across the globe.
From Boston to Berlin, these films offered an intimate portrait of diverse subcultures within large metropolises — and in the process, put a spotlight on eclectic individuals that defy definition to make these communities distinct and deeply enigmatic. We partnered with renowned globetrotter and social media presence Jessica Nabongo to help bring these stories to life.
full-length FILM PRODUCTION
We spent almost a full calendar year scrambling across the world to cast, coordinate, produce and edit full-length films that ultimately lived on YouTube, racking up millions of views via organic traffic driven by Jessica and WhatsApp-owned social channels.

manifesto
They say home is where your heart is.
But what happens when your heart belongs to two places?
Lines become blurred. Fresh paths are forged.
And customs evolve to survive in strange places.
The result?
Something beautiful and new, but hard to define.
Something known by only a few, but relatable to many.
In the fight to preserve heritage,
deep bonds are formed
and tradition takes on new life
across generations.
